Essentially created by making a tight pony tail and anchoring it at the top of the crown and fanning the hair outwards. This hairstyle is best suited to medium to fine hair which is chin to shoulder length.

To create this look, start with a deep side parting, then brush all the hair back to form a pony tail. Bangs can be left in or out. A good light hairspray will make the hair more easily able to fan.

Hold the ponytail about the width of two fingers away from the base between forefinger and thumb and wrap the ponytail clockwise, loping it around the thumb and forefinger to create a loop. Pull the loop level to the base of the pony tail, then smooth the loop and pin it underneath, don't be afraid to use more than one pin, next to the scalp. Take your time ensuring this loop is well balanced and symmetrical.

As you will be fanning the hair, ensure there are at least two inches of free hair. The effect you are after is to create looped hair which merges into the base of the pony tail forming a soft bun, with the free hair sticking out at the base.

For the next step, again take time. Layer a strand of hair around the base of the pony tail, this will hide the band holding the hair in place. The arrange strands of hair into a fan shape, move the hair from one side to the other, to create a balanced shape.

Ensure you have sufficient light hairspray on the hair and pin each strand before moving on to the next. To make the updo stand up, either backcomb, with hairspray or cross two pins at the base of each strand.
